Café racer

Café racer

Most of us were unaware of café racer before Royal Enfield launched the Continental GT 535. Those long, narrow clip on handlebars, tuck in seating, half fairing, rearward located seat, forward posture with rear set footrest, knee grip in tank and extraordinary controls made it an awesome continuity of sportiness with no excessive fairings. This bike combined minimalist design, engine cranked for power and provided the most fun while riding. Modern engines with retro look and design.
Sure then Hero came up with Hero Splendor Pro Classic, that had similar pedigree but the cheaper counterpart. With just a 100cc engine of splendor plus, only the esthetic didn’t make it so appealing. There was definite lack of power and torque, so it came and didn’t know when it was cut off. But apart from the engine, it was a good piece of designing.

These two models are the only available café racer in Nepal right now. Those are the stock café racer. But most of us people don’t know what café racer is. It’s not stock. It doesn’t come from factory. A true spirit of café racer comes after you take out the fairings, tune the engine for maximum torque and power and then make it look like the 60s bike. Forward posture while riding and tuck in seating with narrow clip on handlebar (clubman /ace bars ) makes styling a whole new perspective.

Triumph, Harley Davidson, Moto Guzzi, BSA, Royal Enfield and a few other made factory café racers whereas passionate café racers made their own café racers out of either Japanese bikes or European bikes. Mostly, Japanese bikes had sheer amount of output, so people made café racers out of Honda, Kawasaki or sujuki. After all, passion was the most important thing.

Café racers are built by hands, not made in factory. The true spirit is the essence of hard work and own design and creation. Surely the sexy handlebars, powerful engine tuned for performance and removed excess fairings brings down café racers to one thing. PURE ADRENALINE RUSH.

If you want more on café racers, do comment and I would be posting my next article with more details.
